Dr. Shira I Dunsiger is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics, Psychiatry and Human Behavior, and Behavioral and Social Sciences (Research) at Brown University. She holds adjunct faculty positions at Southern New Hampshire University and Roger Williams University, teaching courses like Principles of Biostatistics and Applied Regression Analysis. Her research focuses on developing statistical methods for behavioral medicine data, with emphasis on pattern detection, big data analysis, and mediation analysis. She leads studies on physical activity interventions for diverse populations, including Latinas, breast cancer survivors, and individuals with chronic conditions.
Dr. Dunsiger's work spans behavioral medicine, public health, and clinical research. She has contributed to over 80 publications and serves as a co-investigator on multiple NIH-funded grants, including projects on physical activity promotion, smoking cessation, and asthma management. Notable roles include co-investigator on studies like the Pasos Hacia La Salud II trial (Latinas’ physical activity) and the Mind Your Heart protocol for heart failure patients. She has collaborated on interventions targeting underserved populations, such as American Samoans with diabetes and urban children with asthma.
Her academic training includes a PhD in Biostatistics from Brown University and a T32 postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular behavioral medicine. She has been affiliated with Brown’s Survey Research Center and the Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity. Her research bridges statistical innovation with real-world health challenges, emphasizing translational applications to improve health outcomes.
