Shinya Yamamoto, D.V.M., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, holding primary appointments in the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics and secondary appointments in Neuroscience. He serves as Associate Director of the Genetics & Genomics Graduate Program and is an Investigator at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. Yamamoto co-leads the Drosophila Core at the Model Organisms Screening Center for the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) and acts as Co-Chair of UDN committees. His work bridges Drosophila genetics with human genomics to solve undiagnosed diseases.

Dr. Yamamoto's research focuses on integrating fly genetics with human genomics to discover disease genes, study Notch signaling, develop bioinformatics tools (MARRVEL, ModelMatcher), and model neurological disorders including autism, Alzheimer's, and infectious diseases like Zika and COVID-19. His lab specializes in Drosophila functional screening of human variants and cross-species disease modeling.
Recent publications highlight his work on infectious disease modeling (Zika, SARS-CoV-2), neurodevelopmental disorders (EZH1, DDX39B), and chromatin modifiers (WDR5, MTSS2). Dr. Yamamoto contributes to variant interpretation frameworks and collaborative platforms for rare disease research.
