Shino Konishi

Shino Konishi is an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Western Australia, and an ARC Future Fellow. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and has authored/co-authored major works such as The Aboriginal Male in the Enlightenment World and The Lives and Legacies of a Carceral Island. Her research focuses on Indigenous and colonial histories, cross-cultural encounters, and exploration narratives, with a particular emphasis on French and European perspectives of Aboriginal peoples.

Her current projects include the ARC-funded An Aboriginal History of Western Australia and the Indigenous Australian Dictionary of Biography. She has held prestigious fellowships, including the 2021 Australian Academy of Humanities Fellowship and the 2023 History Council of Western Australia Award. Her teaching spans courses on Indigenous representation, colonial history, and research methodologies.

Key research themes include colonial violence, Indigenous labor history, and emotions in history. She has led major grants exploring exploration archives, Indigenous biography, and decolonial historiography. Her work bridges global Indigenous studies with localized Australian contexts, emphasizing ethical engagement with Indigenous knowledge systems.
