Shing-Yi Wang is an Associate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She holds fellowships at BREAD and NBER, and previously taught at NYU's Economics Department. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and B.A. from Wellesley College. Her research focuses on development economics and labor economics, particularly property rights, migration, and microeconomic policy in China, India, and Mongolia. She has served in roles at the Federal Reserve Board and USDA.
Her work examines topics such as worker incentives in manufacturing, migration impacts on rural households, and corruption in public service recruitment. Recent studies include analyzing labor supply effects of gender preferences in China and monopsony power in UAE migrant labor markets. She currently co-edits the Journal of Development Economics and serves as an associate editor at the American Economic Review.
