Shiloh Deitz

Shiloh Deitz is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Saint Louis University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Oregon, with additional degrees from Southern Illinois University and Whitworth University. Her research focuses on infrastructural inequalities, particularly housing, environmental conditions, and data accessibility, using spatial analysis, GeoAI, and cartography.

Deitz’s work addresses systemic injustices through mixed-methods approaches, emphasizing data ethics and disability justice. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Associate at Rutgers University’s Bloustein School and as Community Data Coordinator for the Spokane Public Library. She co-leads a new Geospatial Analysis minor at SLU and teaches courses like Statistics and the Social World and Cartography for Social Justice.

Her research includes mapping housing insecurity in New Jersey, analyzing disability accessibility in smart cities, and studying plumbing inequality. Recent publications explore AI bias in urban infrastructure classification and the ethics of smart city data systems. She is a collaborator on SSHRC grants and co-editor of an upcoming special issue on inclusive cities.

Deitz’s interdisciplinary projects bridge academia and public policy, aiming to inform equitable infrastructure policies. Her work has been cited in City Lab and Arizona Public Radio, highlighting her commitment to public-facing scholarship.
