Shibley Telhami is the Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace and Development and Director of the University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll. He holds a PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught at institutions such as Cornell University and Princeton University. His research focuses on political identity, public opinion, and the impact of the information revolution on societal attitudes. He has authored/co-authored influential books like The Stakes: America and the Middle East and The One State Reality: What is Israel/Palestine? His work frequently explores U.S. foreign policy, Middle East conflicts, and the evolving dynamics of public opinion on global issues.
Research & Awards: Telhami’s expertise spans Middle East politics, U.S.-Middle East relations, and public diplomacy. He has advised U.S. administrations since the 1990s and received prestigious awards, including the Carnegie Corporation’s 'Great Immigrants' honor (2013) and recognition as one of Washington’s most influential foreign policy thinkers (2022–2023).
