Shi-Hua Xiang

Shi-Hua Xiang serves as a Professor in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences within the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research program focuses on developing innovative countermeasures against viral infectious diseases through advanced methodologies in antiviral drug and vaccine development.

Dr. Xiang earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Sydney in 1986, following Master's studies in Mycology at Huazhong Agricultural University (1982) and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Hunan Normal University. He completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School in 1995, establishing a strong foundation for his subsequent research career.

His research interests center on antiviral strategies with particular focus on structure-based drug and vaccine design against viral pathogens including HIV, SIV, Ebolaviruses, Zika virus, Dengue virus, OPPV, and BVDV. His laboratory employs cutting-edge technologies to develop countermeasures against these viral threats through two primary approaches: structure-based design targeting viral proteins and commensal bacteria-based delivery systems for mucosal immunity. His work bridges molecular virology, structural biology, and translational medicine to address critical challenges in viral disease prevention and treatment.
