Shey-Shing Sheu

Shey-Shing Sheu is the William Wikoff Smith Professor in Cardiovascular Research within the Department of Medicine. His work focuses on mitochondrial mechanisms underlying cardiovascular pathologies, employing advanced techniques like confocal microscopy and molecular biology.

Research Interests:
Dr. Sheu investigates mitochondrial regulation of cellular processes, including:

• Calcium dynamics in cardiac excitation-contraction-metabolism coupling
• ROS-triggered mitochondrial fission/permeability transitions
• Crosstalk between Ca²⁺ and reactive oxygen species in heart failure/arrhythmias

Research Approach:
His lab utilizes single-cell fluorescence microscopy, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and biochemical assays to study mitochondrial transport proteins, aiming to develop mitochondria-targeted cardiac therapies.
