Godfrey L Smith

Professor Godfrey L Smith is a Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Director of Innovation, Engagement and Enterprise in the Institute of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on subcellular processes in cardiac muscle, particularly excitation-contraction coupling, using biophysical and biochemical techniques such as fluorescence microscopy and electrophysiology. His work spans cardiac electrophysiology, calcium signaling, and translational applications in cardio-oncology and heart failure.

Research interests include cardiac arrhythmia mechanisms, mitochondrial Ca²⁺ handling, and drug-induced cardiotoxicity screening using human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes.
