Shevaun Lewis

Shevaun Lewis is an Associate Research Professor and Assistant Director of the Maryland Language Science Center at the University of Maryland. She also serves as Director of the University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium (UMARC) since 2022. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Maryland.

Her research focuses on autism, language acquisition, language disorders, and pragmatics. She explores how structural constraints influence language processing, particularly in pronoun resolution and belief report interpretation in children. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with experimental approaches in psycholinguistics and cognitive science.

Lewis’s publications (2011–2017) highlight interdisciplinary themes, including the interaction between syntax and pragmatics, developmental pragmatics, and autism-related language challenges.
