Sherwin K. Bryant serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies and History, specializing in colonial Afro-Latin American history within the Atlantic and Pacific World frameworks.
His research critically examines intersections of cultural, legal, and social history through the lens of political economy, with concentrated focus on Black lived experiences in the historical Kingdoms of New Granada and Quito (modern-day Colombia and Ecuador). This work illuminates how African-descended communities navigated colonial structures and shaped societal development in these regions.
