Amber M. Henry

Amber M. Henry is an Assistant Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences and a Faculty Affiliate of the Afro-Latin American Research Institute (ALARI), based at the Barker Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Professor Henry's research centers on political mobilization and embodied practices within Black placemaking across Latin America and the Caribbean. Her ethnographic work examines maroon communities like San Basilio de Palenque in Colombia, analyzing how descendants mobilize historical flight toward sovereignty and belonging in post-conflict contexts. She also investigates Black midwifery on Colombia's Pacific Coast, exploring its impact on maternal health through intergenerational knowledge and ecological traditions.

Supported by multiple Fulbright grants and awards from AAUW and CEE, Professor Henry actively contributes to the Association of the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD) and the Association of Black Anthropologists (ABA). Her teaching addresses racial ideologies, Black Feminism, tourism, and qualitative methods across the African Diaspora in Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Barbados.

She maintains affiliations with Harvard's Afro-Latin American Research Institute (ALARI) and professional networks including ASWAD and ABA, focusing on decolonial research methodologies and diaspora studies.
