Sheri Wells-Jensen is a Professor and Director of T/ESOL and Linguistics Minor Programs at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from SUNY Buffalo, an M.A. in Spanish and Applied Linguistics from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Adrian College. Her research focuses on disability inclusion in space exploration, astrobiology, linguistics, TESOL, and Braille accessibility. She advocates for disabled individuals' roles in space missions and explores how alternative sensory perceptions could influence scientific discovery.
Her work bridges linguistics with astrobiology through xenolinguistics, examining how non-visual communication might operate in alien contexts. She has published in high-impact journals like Acta Astronautica and contributed to public discourse via media outlets like Forbes, Wired, and Scientific American. She serves on advisory boards for organizations like Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI) International and has presented at conferences such as the International Space Development Conference and the Society for Disability Studies.
Wells-Jensen teaches courses including TESOL methods, applied linguistics, and academic composition for English language learners. Her interdisciplinary approach emphasizes accessibility in both education and space exploration, arguing that diverse perspectives—particularly those from disability communities—are critical to addressing global and extraterrestrial challenges.
