Shemil Macelline is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Poultry Research Foundation, University of Sydney. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2023), with prior degrees from Uva Wellassa University (BSc, 2015) and Chungnam National University (MSc, 2019). His research focuses on poultry nutrition, particularly amino acid metabolism and sustainable broiler diets using alternative protein sources like canola meal. He has authored 49 peer-reviewed papers, including a notable review on laying hen amino acid requirements.
Key affiliations include the World's Poultry Science Association and the Poultry Science Association. Awards include the 2022 Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and Poultry Hub Australia funding (2025). Current projects explore betaine and xylanase in reduced-protein diets. Shemil advises three PhD students on sustainable poultry production.
His work emphasizes nutritional efficiency, with studies on amino acid catabolism, feed energy dynamics, and environmental impacts of protein sources. Collaborative projects include transgenic sorghum use and climatic effects on wheat nutrition. Grants include Australian Government scholarships and multiple university support schemes.
Publications span topics like phytase benefits, multi-carbohydrase applications, and trace mineral supplementation. Media engagements include articles on nutrient digestibility and low-protein diets. His lab focuses on bridging amino acid research with practical poultry industry solutions.
