Shemane Murtagh is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Education, Sport and Health. She has over a decade of experience in applied health research, with a focus on physiotherapy, outcome measurement, and data-driven quality improvement in private practice. Her work is deeply embedded in long-term collaborations with Physio First, where she contributes to national data initiatives in musculoskeletal care.

Her work bridges research and practice, aiming to improve patient outcomes through evidence-based monitoring and quality assurance.
Her recent publications highlight trends in clinical database analysis, waiting time impact, low back pain treatment, and the implementation of digital PROMs in private clinics. Shemane has been involved in multiple funded projects with Physio First, including the long-running Data for Impact initiative, which has shaped national understanding of private physiotherapy practice.
