Professor Shelley Marshall is a Professor of Law and Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation) at RMIT University's School of Law. She holds a Doctorate in Regulation, Justice, and Diplomacy from the Australian National University, alongside degrees from the University of Melbourne and the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on Business and Human Rights, Labour Law in developing countries, and the regulation of informal work. She advises the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and has led multi-country projects examining labour law in contexts like India, Cambodia, and Australia.
Her work includes influential studies on modern slavery in supply chains, gender justice in precarious work, and the efficacy of corporate accountability mechanisms. She directs RMIT's Business and Human Rights Centre and has contributed to policy reforms through initiatives like the Cleaning Accountability Framework. Her books, such as Living Wage and Homeworking Women, address global labour challenges.
Marshall collaborates with unions and NGOs to improve labour conditions, particularly in cleaning and garment industries. Her research emphasizes participatory methods and digital technologies to enhance regulatory frameworks. She is actively involved in supervising PhD and Master's students on topics including collective bargaining, gender-based violence, and supply chain governance.
