Shelley M. Lucas

Shelley M. Lucas serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Boise State University. Her academic foundation includes a PhD in cultural studies of sport and leisure from the University of Iowa (2001).

Dr. Lucas's research program centers on women's sport history and gender dynamics in athletics, with specialized focus on:

• Historical analysis of women's cycling (particularly Idaho's Women's Challenge 1984-2002)
• Socio-cultural dimensions of sport-related concussions
• Parental roles in youth athlete concussion recovery
• Evolution of women's cycling communities

Her teaching portfolio emphasizes sport history and sociology of sport, connecting historical contexts to contemporary gender issues in athletics. Current research examines how cultural narratives shape women's participation in cycling and concussion management frameworks.
