Dr. Shelia R. Grigsby is an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Nursing, where she earned tenure in 2023 after joining as Assistant Professor in 2017. She previously served as Dean’s Fellow for Community Engagement (2020-2023), developing a model placing students with over 30 community health organizations.
Her community-based participatory research examines:
- Health disparities in Black communities (HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy)
- LGBTQ+ health equity interventions
- Opioid overdose prevention strategies
- Community-clinical linkages
Selected publications utilize narrative analysis, photovoice, and concept mapping to elevate community perspectives. Recent work focuses on structural determinants of health vulnerability and community health worker interventions.
Awards recognize her community impact:
- Women’s Trailblazer Award (2022)
- Health Pillar Award from 100 Black Men (2018, 2020)
- Multiple community service honors (2015–2017)
Current grants include co-investigator roles on projects addressing overdose deaths among Black men ($3.16M) and community health worker COVID-19 response ($589K).
