Sheldon Weatherstone is an Assistant Professor and Continuing Special Appointment Professor (CSAP) at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, where he serves as Director of the CPA Program. He holds a Diploma and B.Com. from McGill University, an M.B.A. from the University of Ottawa, and certifications including CPA, CA (CPA Quebec), CPA (Illinois CPA Society), CA-IT (CPA Canada), CRISC (ISACA), and CITP (AICPA, USA).
- Teaches: Financial Accounting, Managerial/ Cost Accounting, Auditing Theory, Accounting Information Systems Auditing, and CPA Qualifying courses
- Professional Experience: 37-year career including 7 years as a public accountant and 30 years at Export Development Canada (EDC) in financial accounting, risk assessment, and system design
- Key Contributions: Developed an award-winning credits insurance automated approval system (1994) and implemented productivity improvements in EDC's credit assessment processes
His research interests focus on practical applications of financial accounting, audit theory, and risk management frameworks. At EDC, he trained underwriters in credit analysis and international financial standards, earning a meritorious award. Since retiring as Director of Risk Methodologies in 2010, he has maintained an active consulting career, including a 13-month role as interim Chief Audit Executive at Mitel Networks overseeing SOX audits.
