Shelby S. Hicks is an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design at Western Carolina University, part of the David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts. She holds an MFA in Interior Architecture with a focus on Sustainability from Endicott College and a BS in Applied Studies (management, Magna cum Laude). Before academia, she owned and operated a design and construction company in New Hampshire, specializing in residential projects (75%) and educational/library facilities (25%). She transitioned to full-time teaching in 2012, emphasizing real-world, community-driven design education.
