Patrice Brown is an Assistant Professor at the School of Art and Design within the David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Carolina University. She holds an MFA in Interior Design from Brenau University. Her expertise spans 19 years in interior design, 10 years in mechanical engineering, and project management across automotive, corporate, government, and banking sectors. She teaches courses in commercial design, including space planning, AutoCAD, Revit, lighting, and construction documentation.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes evidence-based design solutions and fostering student collaboration through critical thinking. She aims to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into coursework and community projects, particularly focusing on serving students of color in interior design. Research interests include the impact of gentrification on African-American communities in the rural South and the role of design in preserving cultural heritage through built environments.
Patrice seeks to advance to associate or full professorship and tenure, while continuing service to the university and local communities through collaborative design projects and mentorship.
