Dr. Sheila Thompson serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice and co-program director of the Early Learning and Development Program in Mercer University's College of Education. With 45 years of dedicated service, she transforms early childhood education through workforce development initiatives across Georgia's childcare centers, school districts, and technical colleges.

Research Focus: Dr. Thompson pioneers strategic initiatives empowering disadvantaged children of color through curriculum redesign addressing developmental delays and learning differences. Her work integrates home-school partnerships, teacher-parent relationships, and culturally responsive pedagogy to create equitable learning environments for diverse populations regardless of race or economic background.

Leadership Impact: As Co-Chapter Counselor for Kappa Delta Pi (2021-Present), she chairs accreditation teams at Atlanta Technical College and Georgia Piedmont Technical College while serving on GaPSC Special Education and Early Literacy Task Forces. Her advisory roles with Stepping Stones, BCDI, and EI/ECSE higher education committees drive statewide policy improvements in early childhood systems.
