Sheila Mateo serves as a Lecturer and Special Education Coordinator and Advisor in the Department of Teacher Education at Claremont Graduate University, teaching Special Education Seminars and TEP Program courses.
Her educational qualifications include:
- MA in Educational Leadership with Preliminary Administrative Credential (Concordia University, Irvine)
- MA in Child Development with Mild/Moderate Special Education Credential (University of La Verne)
- BA in Communicative Disorders (California State University Long Beach)
Her research centers on Special Education, Inclusive Education, Anti-bias Curriculum, and Differentiated Instruction, with a strong advocacy for developmentally appropriate practices that equip students with applicable life skills. She emphasizes supporting families and students with disabilities through rigorous, accessible classroom instruction.
With over 15 years in public education, she has served as a special education department chair, induction mentor, and teacher coach across preschool through high school settings as a mild/moderate Education Specialist. Her expertise includes curriculum development, student assessments, secondary ELA co-teaching, and district-level Special Education Program Specialist work.
