Sheila Long

Sheila Long, Ph.D., serves as an Instructor in the Department of Child & Family Studies at Southeast Missouri State University, teaching Child Development and Family Finance courses. She actively advises the Black Student Union and participates in the Black Faculty Staff Alliance (BFSA) at SEMO.

Education:

• B.S. in General Studies, Northwestern State University, Louisiana

Her research centers on literacy development among young African American males and their educational sense of belonging, extending into child development and family finance domains. Dr. Long implements diverse pedagogical approaches including visual, auditory, and hands-on activities to bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications through experiential learning and student-centered examples.

As an academic mentor, she supervises early childhood care practicum students and guides the Black Student Union, regularly presenting conference papers on her specialized topics while maintaining active campus engagement through student organization leadership.
