Sheila Litke is a Professor of Piano, Department Chair of Performing and Visual Art, and Director of the Music Preparatory School at Tabor College. She has held these roles since 2020, with additional service as Associate Arts Director since 2000. Her professional background includes adjunct roles at Ottawa University and teaching assistantships at the University of Colorado and University of Kansas.
Education:
- B.Mus. in Piano Performance, Houghton College
- Further study at Guildhall Conservatory of Music & Drama (London, UK) and Goethe Institute (Rothenberg, Germany)
- M.Mus. in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, University of Colorado, Boulder
- D.M.A. in Piano Performance, University of Kansas
Research & Teaching: Litke specializes in piano pedagogy, performance, and music history. She has presented on topics such as piano pedagogy strategies, hymn arrangements, and student competition preparation. Her performances include orchestral collaborations with Tabor College, Ottawa University, and Hastings College orchestras, as well as solo and chamber performances across multiple U.S. states.
Service & Recognition:
- Recipient of Tabor College's Distinguished Faculty Award (2007-2008)
- Adjudicator for competitions including NMTA, KMTA, WAPTL, and others
- Active presenter at Newton Music Teachers Association events
Labs/Teams: Directs the Tabor College Music Preparatory School, fostering music education for youth and community members.
