Dr. Sheetal Dharmatti is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram, India, where she has been serving since December 2011. Her research focuses on advanced mathematical problems with applications in fluid dynamics and image processing.
Dr. Dharmatti's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. (2005), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India
- M.Sc. (2001), University of Pune, Pune, India
- B.Sc. (1999), Fergusson College, University of Pune, India
Her primary research interests span partial differential equations, control theory, game theory, viscosity solution theory, and their applications to fluid dynamics (including Navier-Stokes equations, phase field models, and fluid flow equations) as well as image processing. She has made significant contributions to the mathematical analysis of hybrid control systems, differential games, and nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard systems, bridging theoretical mathematics with practical applications.
Dr. Dharmatti's publication record demonstrates a consistent progression in mathematical control theory applied to complex fluid systems. Her recent work (2020-2022) increasingly focuses on nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes systems, exploring existence, uniqueness, and stabilization properties with sophisticated mathematical techniques. She has also made important contributions to differential games with hybrid controls and viscosity solutions of unbounded cost functionals, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of her research.
Her scientific achievements have been recognized through several prestigious awards:
- Travel Grant from International Math Union to attend ICM 2014, Seoul Korea
- Postdoctoral fellowship of French Government (2006)
- Postdoctoral fellowship of International Center for Theoretical Physics, Italy (2006, not availed)
- Postdoctoral fellowship of National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM), India (2005)
- CSIR-UGC-NET examination with research fellowship of University Grant Commission (1999)
- Best student scholarship of National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) (1997)
Dr. Dharmatti has mentored several researchers as evidenced by her collaborative publications with Tania Biswas, Manil T Mohan, P L N Mahendranath, and others. Her research has been supported by various national and international funding agencies, including the French Government, National Board of Higher Mathematics (India), and University Grant Commission (India). She has established strong international collaborations, particularly with researchers at Institut de Mathematique de Toulouse, France.
At IISER Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Dharmatti appears to be part of a vibrant research group focused on applied mathematics, particularly in fluid dynamics and control theory. Her extensive collaborations and recent publications suggest she leads or is a key member of a dynamic research team working on cutting-edge problems in mathematical analysis and its applications to real-world systems.
