Shayne Beaver

Dr. Shayne Beaver is a Lecturer and Subject Area Coordinator in Industrial Design at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the School of Design, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice. She holds a PhD, Graduate Diploma, and Bachelor of Built Environment (Industrial Design) from QUT. Her research focuses on emotional connections with products, material sustainability, and design pedagogy. Dr. Beaver has taught over 30 design units, emphasizing empathy, collaboration, and ethical design. She leads initiatives like the Industrial Design Society (IDS), improving student retention and fostering design culture. Collaborations include work with the Special Olympics, XStitch Health, and interdisciplinary health technology researchers at QUT. She has won awards for her educational innovations, including a 2023 team award for the Z12 workshop redevelopment and a 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Performance Fund Award.
