Dr. Shayna Rosenbaum is an Associate Professor at York University’s Faculty of Health, Department of Psychology, and eligible to supervise graduate students in the Biology Graduate Program. She leads the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (Rosenbaum Memory Lab), focusing on hippocampal and medial temporal lobe contributions to memory systems and cognitive functions.
- Research areas: Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Dementia, Aging, Memory
Her work investigates how old memories are represented in the brain, the interplay between spatial, episodic, and semantic memory, and non-mnemonic roles of the hippocampus (e.g., decision-making, future simulation). Methods include neuropsychological testing and MRI of patients with brain lesions and healthy populations.
Recent publications emphasize case studies in uncovering hippocampal functions, implications for Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury. Key trends involve memory consolidation, cognitive aging, and neuroimaging of memory disorders.
- International Neuropsychological Society (INS) Early Career Research Award (2016)
Dr. Rosenbaum mentors graduate students (e.g., Maria Orlando, Claire Lauzon) and alumni (e.g., Jenkin Mok, Jennifer Rabin), some of whom have received national awards. Her research is supported by the $33.3M Vision: Science to Applications (VISTA) grant from Canada’s CFREF initiative.
The Rosenbaum Memory Lab includes lab manager Maria Arrieta, postdoctoral fellows Adrienne Li and Xuehui Lei, graduate students, and undergraduate research assistants. The lab’s work bridges cognitive neuroscience, clinical neuropsychology, and behavioral sciences.
