Shawn E. Christ is an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri, where he leads the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab (CNL). His work focuses on cognitive and neural processes in neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and phenylketonuria (PKU).
Christ's research primarily aims to understand the cognitive and neural processes underlying typical and atypical development. His lab utilizes behavioral measures, patient-reported outcomes, and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, sMRI, DTI) to study individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions. Recent work has focused on behavioral and brain improvements associated with treatment in PKU.
His recent publications (2021-2024) demonstrate a strong focus on phenylketonuria (PKU) and autism spectrum disorder, utilizing neuroimaging and neuropsychological assessments. Key trends include the investigation of working memory, anxiety, and white matter abnormalities in PKU, as well as longitudinal natural history studies.
The Clinical Neuropsychology Lab conducts studies on neurocognitive changes in response to pharmaceutical and behavioral interventions, with a particular emphasis on autism spectrum disorder and PKU. The lab's approach integrates multiple methodologies to elucidate the neural substrates of cognition in both typical and disrupted brain development.
