Dr. Shaun Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Northumbria University. He combines academic roles with architectural practice, focusing on design-driven research rooted in practice. His work explores the integration of historical concepts like the Picturesque into contemporary architecture and innovative visual methodologies.
Education: PhD in Architecture (Northumbria, 2022), DipArch (Kingston University, 2011), BA (Hons) in Architecture (Northumbria University, 2008).
Research interests include architectural design theory, practice-led research methods, and the reinterpretation of historical principles for modern ecological and cultural challenges. Recent work engages with infrastructure repurposing and community-driven projects in the North East of England.
- Teaching: Co-leads Year 1 architecture program, previously led award-winning MA studio 'Landhaus' and final-year BA design studios.
- Practice: Collaborates with community groups and local authorities, previously worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, DRDH Architects, and others.
