Dr. Shatirah Akib is an Associate Professor on secondment supporting the Director of Education in the School of Aviation and Security at Buckinghamshire New University (BNU). Previously, she held roles including Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead for Civil Engineering at BNU, Subject Area Leader at the University of Huddersfield, and Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University's Malaysia branch. Her career spans academic, research, and industry roles in civil engineering.
Dr. Akib's research focuses on Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Engineering, Coastal Protection, and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems. She has secured grants and conducted impactful studies on topics like scour mitigation, renewable energy, and green infrastructure. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and a member of IAHR and ICE.
Her recent articles (2020-2023) emphasize innovative solutions for environmental challenges, including coastal protection, flood risk reduction, and sustainable materials. She advises on inter/multi-disciplinary PhD projects and has graduated multiple students in Hydraulic/Water Engineering. Projects include consulting for infrastructure resilience and water resource management.
