Grant Wright is an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society, part of the Institute for Infrastructure & Environment. He holds a MEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Newcastle (1993) and a PhD from Heriot-Watt University (1997). His career spans academia and industry, including roles as a Research Associate at Heriot-Watt, hydraulic engineer at Montgomery Watson Ltd, and post-doctoral researcher in Australia. He specializes in urban drainage systems, climate change impact on infrastructure, and sustainable water management.
Research interests include hydraulic engineering, flood risk management, and innovative data integration for infrastructure design. Recent work focuses on optimizing water storage systems, flood forecasting using social media data, and hydrological studies in the UAE. He teaches courses on hydraulics, hydrology, and river flow simulation at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Key contributions include the AUDACIOUS project (EPSRC-funded) on climate change and urban drainage, and leadership in the Drainage and Water Supply Research Group. He manages the Hydraulics Flume facility and has participated in public engagement initiatives like the Cheltenham Science Festival (2010).
