Sharon Preves is a Professor of Sociology and Program Director of Public Health Sciences at Hamline University. She co-directed Hamline's Collaborative Research programs for six years and teaches courses on gender, medicine, sexuality, identity, and social research methods.
Her research focuses on intersex and identity, medical sociology, and social inequality. She authored the book Intersex and Identity: the Contested Self (2003) and co-edited a social psychology anthology (2011). Her current work examines medical student socialization regarding care for intersex and transgender patients.
Professor Preves emphasizes sociological exploration of everyday life, encouraging students to critique social structures and privilege through reflective writing, research, and presentations. She is also co-author of publications on collaborative teaching and female genital cutting.
