Dr Sharon Parsons is a Senior Research Officer within the Diabetes Research Group at Swansea University School of Medicine. She joined the university in 2012 to coordinate a large, multi-center trial on self-monitoring of blood glucose in type 2 diabetes, which formed the basis of her PhD thesis completed in 2019. Her career includes roles as Network Manager for the NIHR Thames Valley Diabetes Local Research Network and Research & Development Manager at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Trust. She holds a Master’s in Public Health Medicine from the Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Health Authority.
Her research focuses on diabetes self-management, psychological and social aspects of diabetes, and the benefits of blood glucose monitoring. Current work includes evaluating NHS diabetes prevention programs. Key collaborations involve NHS colleagues and academic teams at Swansea University Medical School.
Publications highlight contributions to clinical trials, telecare support in diabetes management, and public health interventions. Her work bridges clinical research and community engagement, emphasizing practical applications of diabetes prevention strategies.
