Sharon McGregor is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Excellence for Children’s Care and Protection (CELCIS) within the University of Strathclyde. Her work focuses on social justice, human rights, and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations, including care-experienced children, survivors of historical abuse, and refugees. She has contributed to policy development, survivor advocacy, and innovative research methodologies.
Education: BA (Hons) in Psychology (University of the West of Scotland, 2013).
Research Interests: Sharon’s research spans child protection, historical abuse redress schemes, refugee wellbeing, and accessible healthcare for people with learning disabilities. She employs participatory methods, such as art workshops and ecomapping, to center marginalized voices. Her projects include the Drawings Together study on refugee relational wellbeing and the Bright Spots program to amplify care-experienced young people’s voices.
Key Contributions: She led consultations for Scotland’s financial redress scheme for abuse survivors and supported the Scottish Government’s redress team. Her work with the Scottish Human Rights Commission’s InterAction Action Plan Review Group ensured justice for historical abuse victims. Recent collaborations include projects in Norway and Finland.

Additional Roles: Formerly provided coaching services and held research roles at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and the University of the West of Scotland. She also served as an Office & IT Manager at CDM Scotland Ltd (1996–2007).
