Dr. Sharon Lucock is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agribusiness and Markets at Lincoln University, New Zealand. She serves as the Programme Director for the Master of Management in Agribusiness and is Associate Director of the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre. Dr. Lucock is actively involved in multiple research centers including the Centre of Excellence in Transformative Agribusiness and the Centre of Excellence – Sustainable Tourism for Regions, Landscapes and People (CoEST).
Dr. Lucock's educational background includes a PhD and MAppSci from Lincoln University, a Graduate Certificate in Commerce from Lincoln University, and a BAgSci from China Agricultural University, Beijing. She is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin), which supports her research focus on the Chinese market.
Dr. Lucock's research expertise lies in agribusiness management, particularly in pasture-based agri-food industries and the Chinese market. Her work is highly interdisciplinary, spanning physical sciences (climate, soils, plants, animals) and social sciences (psychology, cultures, human resources, logistics, economics). She focuses on understanding the factors that drive and shape the agribusiness environment within the Chinese market from biophysical, social, and environmental perspectives, with particular emphasis on sociological aspects. Her research aims to help New Zealand agribusiness operators develop effective strategies for the Chinese market.
Dr. Lucock's recent publications demonstrate strong trends in food tourism, sustainability transitions in agrifood systems, cultural aspects of food authenticity, and the application of technology (particularly drones) in agricultural environmental compliance. Her work often takes a transdisciplinary approach, examining the complex interactions within agrifood systems and how cultural norms influence decision-making along the value chain.

Dr. Lucock has supervised multiple postgraduate students on topics including animal welfare regulations, wine regions in China, food tourism in Suzhou, and mobile applications for farmers in Nigeria. She is available for Masters and PhD student supervision as well as collaborative projects. Her research aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure, Responsible Consumption and Production, Zero Hunger, and Life on Land. Dr. Lucock is also involved in the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre, where she serves as Associate Director, contributing to research and engagement between New Zealand and China.
