Sharon Hutchings is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, Nottingham Trent University. She teaches on BA Sociology, BA Criminology, and MA Public Sociology programs. As co-lead for Service Learning, she collaborates with over 25 local not-for-profit organizations on social justice projects with students. Her research focuses on community-university engagement, critical pedagogy, and work/employment dynamics, particularly in Nottingham's Area 6 (St Ann’s, Mapperley, and the Dales).
- Current projects include a participatory action research initiative with The Renewal Trust exploring work and employment.
- Professional affiliations: British Sociological Association (BSA) member, Trustee of Association of Research in the Voluntary and Community Sector (ARVAC), and Trustee of POW Nottingham.
Her career bridges higher education and adult/community education, emphasizing socially engaged practices. She advises student-led research and co-leads a steering group guiding Service Learning strategy with local partners.
