Sharon Gill is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on avian behavior, sound ecology, and the impacts of anthropogenic noise on wildlife. She leads the Gill Lab, which investigates bird communication, soundscape ecology, and collaborations between art and science to raise awareness about biodiversity. Her work is supported by grants from the Eppley Foundation, NSF (IOS-1256799, IOS-1953226), and Western Michigan University.
Education: Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Manitoba. Key projects include studying yellow warbler alarm calls, military noise effects on warblers, and soundscapes in nature preserves. She collaborates with artists to merge science with artistic practices, exhibiting work at galleries and nature centers.
Grants include NSF funding for cowbird-parasite research and Eppley Foundation support for soundscape studies. Current research explores noise/light impacts on bird signaling and restoration ecology through soundscapes.
