Sharmila L. Murthy is a Professor of Law and Public Policy at Northeastern University, jointly appointed in the School of Law and College of Social Sciences. She serves as Faculty Co-Director of the Center for Public Interest Advocacy and Collaboration.

Her scholarship investigates legal frameworks for environmental justice, focusing on water access, sanitation equity, and climate change mitigation. She bridges public policy with human rights analysis.

Murthy previously directed environmental justice initiatives at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (2023-2024) and led Suffolk University Law School's research programs.
