Sharinee Jagtiani

Dr. Sharinee Jagtiani is an Associate at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies, affiliated with the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). She holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Oxford and an MSc from the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on Geopolitics and Technology, US-China strategic competition, EU-India relations, and AI's impact on democracy. She also serves as a Senior Officer at the German Marshall Fund’s Technology Programme and previously held postdoctoral roles at the Hasso Plattner Institute and the GIGA.

Her work explores global technology governance, military AI ethics, and status-seeking strategies of Global South nations like India and Indonesia in forums such as the G20 and G7. She frequently publishes in peer-reviewed journals and policy briefs, addressing issues like China’s influence in Serbia and AI’s role in international security.

Dr. Jagtiani’s contributions include lectures on global politics and status dynamics, such as her presentation at the GIGA Forum on India, Turkey, and Indonesia’s foreign policy strategies. Her research is anchored in the Global Orders and Foreign Policies programme at GIGA, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary geopolitical challenges.
