Dr. Sharif Rasel is a Senior Lecturer of International Business at Flinders University's College of Business, Government and Law. Previously, he held academic positions at Monash Business School in Melbourne, served in the Ministry of Public Administration in Bangladesh, and conducted research at Wageningen Economic Research (LEI) in the Netherlands. He joined Flinders University in December 2019 and has received recognition for his teaching excellence, including the Student-Led Teaching Award for College of Business, Government and Law in 2022.
Dr. Rasel's educational background includes:
- PhD in International Business from Monash University, Australia
- MSc in International Development Studies from Wageningen University, Netherlands
- MSc in Economics from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh
- BSc in Economics (First Class with Second Place in order of merit) from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh
His research spans international business, economic geography, and strategic management, with particular focus on regional competitiveness, reshoring of businesses, and the effects of locational factors on business performance. He employs interdisciplinary approaches that bridge international business literature with economic geography to examine spatial dimensions of business strategy.
His recent publications reveal consistent research themes across economic geography, international business, and development studies. His work examines how regional characteristics influence business decisions, with special attention to reshoring, entrepreneurial diversification in agriculture, and the impact of institutional quality on resilience during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. His research often incorporates subnational analysis, examining how location choices within countries affect firm performance and regional development.

Dr. Rasel serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Review of International Business and Strategy and is actively involved in research grants and international collaborations, including a competitive Australian government grant received in 2021 through collaboration with World Vision India, IIM Udaipur, and Monash University. He also participates in the GLOBE 2020 Project as Country Co-Investigator for Bangladesh.
He is a member of several professional organizations including the Regional Studies Association, Academy of International Business, and Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy, demonstrating his active engagement in both academic and policy communities.
