Shaphan NG

Shaphan NG is a full-time Assistant Professor of Accounting at Singapore Management University's School of Accountancy (SOA). He holds a PhD in Management from the University of California, Irvine (2021), alongside a BAcc and BBM (Finance) from SMU (2015). Prior to academia, he worked as an equity research analyst at an investment bank and taught as a Lecturer at SMU.

His research focuses on corporate tax planning, financial reporting quality, and corporate governance dynamics. He investigates how tax policies influence managerial decisions and firm behaviors, with particular attention to transparency, regulatory enforcement, and employee perceptions.

Shaphan has received notable awards including the Ray Watson Doctoral Fellowship (2020-2021) and Wayne Bian Research Achievement Award (2020). His teaching expertise spans taxation and financial accounting disciplines.

Recent work explores topics such as anti-SLAPP laws' impact on corporate transparency, tax whistleblower deterrence mechanisms, and subsidy-driven tech industry growth. His research often bridges legal frameworks with accounting practices, revealing critical insights for policy and corporate strategy.
