Shaoyu Wang

Dr. Shaoyu Wang (Shaun) is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy & Physiology at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences, Charles Sturt University (CSU), with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Western Sydney University (WSU) and a BVetMed from Shanxi Agricultural University. Since joining CSU in 2014, he has held leadership roles including Head of Discipline and Associate Head of School, managing one of CSU's largest academic units.

• Specializes in biomedical research, anatomy, medical education, and biology of ageing
• Active contributor to the Australian Association of Gerontology and UN Sustainable Development Goals (Health Services, Ageing, Neuroscience)

Research Focus: Two interconnected approaches—

• Understanding ageing mechanisms via model organisms (cell lines, yeast) and translating findings to human studies
• Developing rural health promotion strategies, including early detection of youth suicidality and maternal health barriers

His work spans gut microbiota modulation (e.g., rice bran arabinoxylan studies), neurodegenerative disease prevention (Alzheimer’s), and medical education reform (PBL curriculum design).
