Shaowen Bardzell is a Professor and Chair of the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology. Previously, she held professorial roles at Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology and Indiana University's School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Indiana University, blending humanities with technology research.

Research Interests: Bardzell’s work centers on feminist HCI, critical computing, sustainability, and women’s health. She explores how feminism, design, and social science can drive socially just technology. Key themes include care ethics, posthumanist design, computational agriculture, and cultural activism in Asia. Her research is funded by NSF, Intel, and Mellon Foundation.
Professional Impact: Co-editor of Critical Theory and Interaction Design (2018) and co-author of Humanistic HCI (2015). Honored with the ACM SIGCHI Societal Impact Award (2023) and elected to the SIGCHI Academy (2024).
