Shaowei He

Shaowei He is a Professor of International Business at the University of Northampton, where he also serves as Director of the China and Emerging Economies Centre. He holds visiting professorships at Guangdong University of Finance and Economics and Jianghan University in China, and is a Senior Editor for the International Journal of Emerging Markets. Additionally, he serves as Ambassador for International Exchange with the Hunan Provincial Government. He obtained his PhD in Economic Development from the University of Birmingham in 2008. His research focuses on the internationalization of Chinese firms, power dynamics, and cross-cultural communication in global business contexts.

Education: Shaowei earned his PhD in Economic Development from the University of Birmingham in 2008. Prior to joining the University of Northampton in 2008, he pursued his academic career there, focusing on international business and economic geography.

Research Interests: His work explores multinational enterprises (MNEs) from emerging economies, particularly their impact on global economic structures, innovation internationalization, and regional development. Current projects emphasize the internationalization of Chinese MNEs and their effects on domestic and international business clusters. He has been invited to speak in the UK, Hungary, Brazil, China, and Kazakhstan on Chinese MNEs' implications.

Funding & Awards: Shaowei has secured significant grants, including a 2024 grant from Hungary's National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMIA) for studying Chinese investment in Hungary, and a 2019 British Council grant for UK-China academic partnerships. His research has appeared in leading journals like the Journal of World Business and Human Resource Management.

Teaching & Supervision: He teaches the Political Economy of China and Asian Business Development at the undergraduate level and contributes to postgraduate programs. He has supervised three PhD students to completion, including Taher Sahibi, whose thesis focused on 'Emotion and Knowledge Transfer in International Acquisitions.'

Media & Outreach: Shaowei is a sought-after commentator on Chinese overseas investment and Sino-European relations, featured in media such as China Daily and the Business Times. His insights bridge academic research and public discourse on global business dynamics.
