Shaolei Teng is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Biology at Howard University, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. His expertise spans Bioinformatics, Mental Disorders research, Next-Generation Sequencing, Machine Learning applications, and Protein Structure Modeling. He holds a Ph.D. from Clemson University (2011) and completed postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (2011-2015).
His research focuses on understanding genetic mutations' impacts on protein function and disease mechanisms, particularly in neurodevelopmental disorders, cancer, and viral infections. Notable studies include investigations into SARS-CoV-2 variants, protein stability in mental health conditions, and therapeutic strategies against head and neck cancers.
