Dr. Shanting Chen is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Florida. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She completed postdoctoral training at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy.
Her research examines the intersection of stress, race/ethnicity, cultural contexts, and social inequality. She investigates socio-cultural factors (e.g., ethnic/racial socialization) and bio-behavioral mechanisms (e.g., cortisol, sleep) to understand adolescent development amid inequality. Her work integrates longitudinal, daily diary, and ecological momentary assessment methodologies, grounded in ecological theory, the integrative model of minority child development, and biopsychosocial models.
Her recent publications focus on stress biomarkers in immigrant populations, discrimination impacts on mental health, and cultural adaptations during adolescence. Research spans Mexican-origin families, vaccine uptake during COVID-19, and mindfulness interventions.
