Dr. Shannon Weaver is a Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) since 2002. She specializes in feminist family studies, family rituals, and parental stress during crises such as the pandemic. Her work emphasizes feminist accountability, co-developed with Elizabeth Sharp, and explores the hidden labor in family dynamics.
Education:
- BS and MS in HDFS with a concentration in Gender Studies (University of Missouri)
- PhD in Human Environmental Sciences, HDFS (University of Missouri)
Research Interests:
- Family rituals and gendered labor allocation
- Parental stress during the pandemic (e.g., Parenting During Covid-19 Stressors Scale)
- Sexual assault prevention on college campuses (co-edited 2017 Family Relations special volume)
Current Projects:
- Nationwide longitudinal study Children, Parents, Relationships and COVID-19 (CPR-C) with Carol Johnston
- Survey/interview analysis on family rituals and economic/human resource allocation
Teaching & Service:
- Course coordinator for HDFS 1070 (Individual and Family Development) and creator of HDFS 1060 (Close Relationships Across the Lifespan)
- Former Chair of the Feminism and Family Studies Section, National Council on Family Relations
