Shannon S. Glaser, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Medicine at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. Her research focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of cholangiocytes in chronic cholestatic liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). Dr. Glaser investigates the role of the local renin-angiotensin system (RAS), mechanical stress, and signaling pathways in biliary proliferation and fibrosis. She holds a PhD from Texas A&M University System Health Science Center (2006), an MS (1994), and a BS (1991) from Texas A&M University.
Her research interests include the neuroendocrine role of cholangiocytes, mechanotransduction pathways, and the interplay between inflammation and fibrosis in liver diseases. Her recent work highlights the therapeutic potential of targeting secretin, melatonin receptors, and mast cell signaling. Dr. Glaser collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams to advance translational research in hepatology.
Publications span cholangiocyte biology, liver fibrosis, and novel therapeutic strategies. Key findings include the role of the RAS in cholangiocyte proliferation and the modulation of senescence pathways in bile duct injury. Her lab contributes to understanding biliary epithelial responses to mechanical and hormonal stimuli.
