Shannon Porter is a Lecturer in Nursing (Education) at Queen's University Belfast's School of Nursing and Midwifery. She holds a PhD, MSc in Advancing Nursing Practice, and a PGCert in Learning, Teaching, and Assessment in Higher Education. She leads Year 1 undergraduate nursing programs and coordinates modules like Public Health Perspectives and Preparation for Degree. Her teaching spans undergraduate nursing and postgraduate oncology and GEMS programs. She supervises 3 PhD students and supports Masters-level dissertation students. She also coordinates interprofessional education simulations and placement coordination for health visiting and district nursing in Northern Ireland.
Research Interests: Shannon's work focuses on healthcare inequalities, patient stigma (gender, weight, and learning disabilities), nursing education, and public health. She employs qualitative methods like thematic analysis to explore topics such as diabetes education interventions, prison healthcare access, and systemic biases in pain management for women.
